What is your name?


Norman Townsend.


When did you first realise you wanted to be a writer?


I've always written a little just for fun, mainly articles, only ever had one published though. Started writing my book in 2017. Started as a non fiction memoir of my twenty five years in the waste industry, changed it mid stream when I realised the potential as a crime thriller.


What genre books do you write?


Crime thriller.


What is the name of your book/books?


TRASHED, to be followed by REHASHED or RESTORATION MAN, (working titles.)


Were there alternate endings you considered?


Yes, wanted to bust up the big boss, and have my protagonist, Paul Stafford get a bit of romance, decided better for new book.


If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?


Just write it! Don't keep making excuses, just write it.


Does your family support your career as a writer?


They are proud that I completed my novel, but not critical enough to help!


What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?


Realistic dialogue.


Does writing energise or exhaust you?


Energise.


What items do you surround yourself with when you write?


Piles of paper, biro refills and solitude.


What is your favourite genre of books to read?


Crime fiction.


What is your favourite childhood book?


Black Beauty.


Do you have a favourite author or one who inspires you to write?


Michael Collenny, James Patterson, Ian Rankin, Lee Child.


What words of wisdom would you give to someone who wants to be an author?


Know your audience.



Your trip to the tip will never be the same again...

Ex-military man Paul Stafford has quickly settled back in to civilian life.
